Dr. Kody Roper’s work is guided by a commitment to meaningful growth, thoughtful practice, and strong, collaborative relationships.

The drop down sections to the right offer a closer look at the philosophies that guide his counseling, supervision, and teaching, as well as reflections from clients, supervisees, and students who have experienced this work firsthand. Together, they provide a deeper understanding of the approach, values, and impact.

  • At the core of Dr. Roper’s counseling approach is a belief in the importance of encouragement, connection, and understanding.

His work is “firmly grounded in Adlerian individual psychology” and emphasizes helping clients develop insight, build confidence, and better understand the factors shaping their lives.

    In practice, this often means:

    • Creating a safe, supportive environment for exploration

    • Helping clients make meaning of their experiences

    • Building skills that support long-term growth

    • Moving at a pace that feels both intentional and sustainable

For children, this work is often expressed through play. For adolescents and adults, it takes shape through conversation, reflection, and experiential work.

  • Dr. Roper’s approach to clinical supervision is grounded in collaboration, encouragement, and a strong commitment to both client welfare and supervisee growth.

His supervision philosophy is rooted in an Adlerian approach, which emphasizes “encouragement, social interest, and a holistic view of the supervisee.” Supervision is viewed as a collaborative process, where goals are developed intentionally and growth is supported through both challenge and support.

He also integrates the Discrimination Model of Supervision, adapting his role as teacher, counselor, and consultant based on the needs and developmental level of the supervisee. This flexible approach allows supervision to be responsive, individualized, and focused on strengthening clinical skills, conceptualization, and professional identity.

Across the supervision process, there is a strong emphasis on:

    • Developing self-awareness and confidence

    • Strengthening clinical decision-making

    • Engaging in reflective and ethical practice

    • Maintaining a consistent focus on client care

Supervision at EFC‑T is designed not only to support skill development, but to help clinicians grow into thoughtful, capable, and grounded professionals.

  • Dr. Roper’s work as an educator and trainer reflects the same values that guide his clinical and supervisory work—connection, engagement, and meaningful application.

His teaching approach is grounded in the belief that learning is most effective when it is both experiential and practical. Rather than focusing solely on theory, trainings are designed to help participants translate knowledge into real-world practice in ways that feel relevant and sustainable.

Whether working with mental health professionals, educators, or organizations serving youth, his trainings emphasize:

    • Bridging theory and practice

    • Developing applicable, real-world skills

    • Encouraging reflection and professional growth

    • Creating engaging, collaborative learning environments

Drawing from his experience in clinical practice, school settings, and higher education, trainings are tailored to meet the needs of each audience while maintaining a strong foundation in ethical, developmentally informed care.

The goal is not only to share knowledge, but to support professionals in feeling more confident, capable, and effective in the work they do.

    • “"Amazing at creating an awesome environment to grow.”

    • “Fun, Kind, Compassionate."

    • [Group Counseling] “It was always clear that he genuinely cared about each and everyone of us."

    • “Your intuition and compassion make you and A+ counselor.”

    • “I honestly cherish every session because I always got something out of it.”

    • “Kody said at the start that if I liked him every session that he would find that as a failure because that means that we are not growing. I can tell you that is true, at times he invited me to look at things I wanted to ignore… I am leaving this counseling feeling more hopeful about my long term success than I have with previous therapists.”

    • “Dr. Roper is a wonderful supervisor. I deeply appreciated his investment in my professional and educational growth. I always felt very supported and felt comfortable going to Dr. Roper with any questions or concerns. I appreciate all the time and effort Dr. Roper put in to creating a growth and support focused environment. I will truly miss being his supervisee.”

    • “Thank you, Dr. Roper, for all your help. Your supervision style taught me so much about case conceptualization, particularly within an Adlerian framework, and I felt adequately challenged and supported as I built my skills up to where they are now.”

    • “Dr. Roper supported, cared for, and challenged myself and my colleague by strengthening our counseling identity by walking alongside us on our journey of independence and depending upon others for support when needed.”

    • "To be a student of Dr. Roper is to be known and to be seen.”

    • “I will be a better counselor because of his effort, skill, and care.”

    • “Dr. Roper asks a lot from his students, and it’s clear that he puts in even more. He clearly cares very deeply about the courses he teaches and the impact they have on his students.”

    • “Students made clear that they felt Dr. Roper cared about them as people.”

    • “One of the best professors I have ever had in a class in undergrad or graduate school.”
